Q. What is the right age to start lessons?
A. The age that the idea of taking lessons takes hold in your mind and doesn't go away. That could be three or 83. Doesn't matter. ---------------------------------- Q. How long should I practice? A. The time spent practicing varies in the beginning. It is hard to practice very long if you can only play a few things. Later as your interests are discovered, the time spent practicing will grow on its own. It is better to pursue music first and find a time for it as you go, then to let fear of time constraints prevent so much potential joy in your life. ------------------------------------- Q. What if I don't want to play a certain type of music? A. No problem. There are endless books and arrangements available for you to choose from. ---------------------------------------- Q. How do I support my child's practice? A. If more than a gentle reminder is needed, I consider it my job to find the spark in the student to want to sit down at the piano. Parents and grandparents often tell me that they wish I had been their piano teacher. Force doesn't work. Inspiration does. ------------------------------------------- Q. How to tell if the style of lessons is working? A. Laughter and imagination sprinkled with years of experience making music that relates and speaks to the heart. You will capture the joy. |
